As an actor I’ve always found a lot comfort in preparation. Even before moving out to Los Angeles from Maine, I spent a lot of time gathering everything I needed to be a working actor: headshots, demo reel, and profiles on the major casting sites. I read articles from Backstage, acting technique books, and found an acting class I could jump in the moment I arrived. And while the materials I had were pretty rudimentary, they were at least a jumping off point.

All of this is to say how surprised I am when newer actors in LA talk to me and they have nothing. No headshots, no reel (or footage of any kind), no technique to fall back on, and almost worse than all of that is they don’t even know where to submit for acting jobs.

I hope through the course of this blog, and the course of my own creative journey as an actor and filmmaker, readers will find resources helpful for their own careers.
